Run your first mock interview

Pick a company, set the round type and difficulty, upload your resume, book a slot, sit the interview, then read the report tab by tab.

Before you start

  • An Expert Hire practice account.
  • 5 Prep Credits, which is what one mock interview costs.
  • Your resume as a PDF or DOCX, under 10 MB.
  • A quiet, well lit room, a working mic and camera, and about 25 minutes.
Steps

6 steps, in order.

1

Pick the company you are preparing for

Click Take mock interview. The picker opens on Start a new interview, with tabs for All Companies and All Roles, a search box, and filters for category and tier such as MNC, SME and Startup. There are over 900 companies. Each card carries a short description and a Start now button. If you do not have a target yet, use Surprise me. If your company is not listed, use Custom interview and set the round up from a job description instead.

  • Practising for the company you are actually interviewing at beats practising in general.
2

Set the job, the round and the difficulty

Start now opens a three step setup: Job & Configuration, Resume Upload, Schedule Interview. Step one asks for the job position you are applying for, the round type, and a difficulty of Easy, Medium or Hard. Round type is the style of interview and difficulty is how hard the questions push. Start on Easy to learn the format, then move up: harder rounds carry more weight in showing you are ready.

3

Upload the resume the interview should be based on

Step two takes a PDF or DOCX up to 10 MB. This is not a formality: the questions and the feedback are personalised against what is in it, so upload the resume you would actually send for that role rather than an old one.

4

Book a slot

Step three shows a calendar and the times available that day. Pick one and the slot is reserved. You then get a confirmation with the candidate, position, company, round, date and time, and a Join Interview button for when it starts.

  • Everything you have booked, cancelled and completed is listed under Interviews in the left menu, with the round type, role, difficulty and score on each.
5

Sit the interview

Before joining, pick your microphone and camera from the dropdown and leave both on. You will see a waiting screen while the round is prepared, then the AI interviewer greets you and starts. Expect an introduction question, then questions that follow from what you actually said. On a coding round the problem statement appears on the right with a code editor, and you click Submit Code when you are done. The session is timed and the countdown is on screen.

Your rounds with score, insight, date and status, and View feedback on each.

  • Structure behavioural answers as situation, task, action, result. It is the difference between a rambling answer and a scored one.
  • Answer out loud and in full. One-word answers give the follow-up nothing to work with, and interviews sat without a camera are flagged to your placement cell.
6

Read the report, then fix one thing

Click View feedback once the evaluation is processed. The report opens on Overview and carries further tabs for Strengths, Work on this, Action plan, Summary and Highlights. You also get View recording, Share and Download report. The right rail holds your percentile, a skill breakdown across communication, behaviour and technical, a behavioural analysis of eye contact, posture and emotional state, and a speech analysis covering fluency, pronunciation, grammar, active listening and confidence. Coding rounds add a code score for accuracy, logic and efficiency.

  • Do not just read the number. Take the lowest of the three skill scores, pick one named weakness, and re-run the same round with only that changed. Two runs with a fix in between teaches more than six different rounds.
What you get

At the end of this guide.

A scored mock interview against a real company and role.

A report across six tabs, with strengths, what to work on and a practice plan.

Behavioural and speech analysis, plus a code score on coding rounds.

A recording and a transcript of the session.

A session saved to your history so you can see whether you are improving.

Common mistakes

What goes wrong, and the fix.

Practising only the round you are already good at.

Your readiness moves when the weakest of the three skill scores moves. Go there first.

Reading the score and moving straight to another company.

Re-run the same round after fixing one named weakness. That is where the improvement is.

Uploading an old resume at step two.

Questions and feedback are generated against it. Upload the one you would actually send.

Sitting the round with the camera off.

You lose the behavioural analysis entirely, and the attempt is flagged to your placement cell.
