Get feedback on your resume

Target your resume at a company and role, read the ATS readiness breakdown, close the missing keywords, and re-run until you clear 70 percent.

Before you start

  • An Expert Hire practice account.
  • 1 Prep Credit per resume review.
  • Your current resume as a PDF or DOCX, up to 5 MB.
Steps

6 steps, in order.

1

Set your target first

Open Resume Feedback and start at Set your target. Pick the company and the job role you are applying for. A resume is not good or bad on its own, it is a fit or a miss for one specific role, and every part of the analysis is written against the target you choose. The more specific the role, the more useful the result.

Set your target, then upload. Past analyses sit underneath with their scores.

  • Run the same resume against two different roles. The gaps that show up in both are the real ones.
2

Upload the resume you actually send

Drop the file or click to browse. PDF or DOCX, up to 5 MB. Upload the version recruiters are really reading rather than a cleaned-up one, because the point is to find what is wrong with the one in circulation. Keep the page open until it has uploaded and been graded.

3

Read the ATS readiness breakdown

ATS readiness is how well the resume survives an applicant tracking system, and it splits into three scored parts. The report names the weakest of them for you, which is the one to fix first.

  • Experience relevance

    What it measures
How closely your past work matches the target role
  • Formatting

    What it measures
    Structure, layout and style
  • Readability

    What it measures
How easily a human gets through it
4

Close the missing keywords

The report lists terms from the job description that are absent from your resume, with a count of how many to add. Add the ones that genuinely apply to you, using the exact phrasing from the posting. This is the single fastest way to move an ATS readiness score.

  • Do not add keywords for work you have not done. It reads as padding to a human and collapses in the interview.
5

Check domain fit, length and links

Domain skill fit scores how strongly your technical skills line up with the role, separately from ATS mechanics. Length gives a verdict on whether the resume is the right size, one page being ideal for a student and two the maximum. The links section shows which portfolio or project links were detected and flags when there are none.

6

Work the tabs, then re-run

The report has tabs for Overview, Strengths, Needs improvement and Suggested changes, plus View resume, Share and Download report. Suggested changes is the one to act on. Fix what it names, upload the revised version, and compare. Aim for 70 percent and above overall, and treat every version as a datapoint rather than a verdict.

  • Every analysis stays in your resume timeline, so you can see whether a rewrite actually helped or just moved things around.
What you get

At the end of this guide.

An overall score against one specific company and role.

An ATS readiness score split into experience relevance, formatting and readability.

The keywords from the job description you are missing.

A domain skill fit score, a length verdict and a list of detected links.

Named strengths, weaknesses and suggested changes across four tabs.

A timeline of every version so you can see what improved.

Common mistakes

What goes wrong, and the fix.

Uploading a general resume with no target role.

Set the company and role first. Untargeted feedback is generic feedback.

Rewriting everything at once.

Fix what Suggested changes names, re-run, and see what actually moved the score.

Stuffing in every missing keyword.

Add the ones that genuinely apply, in the exact phrasing. The rest fail at interview.

Treating a low formatting score as cosmetic.

Formatting is part of ATS readiness. A resume a parser cannot read never reaches a person.
